Melissa Smith began her career in education teaching grades 1, 2, and 3 in the public school system for 6 years.  In that same school system she worked as a curriculum technology specialist for two elementary schools that served grades PK - 6.   She then worked at an independent school where she was the computer lab teacher for grades Prek - 3rd and a part of the technology department assisting with staff training and technical support.  After 3 years at that position Melissa moved to Presbyterian Day School, where she has been for the past 6 years.  Her current position is the Technology Coordinator specializing in virtual and adaptive education, managing and implementing online learning; is a technology support person for all grades (students and teachers) as well as special area teachers and the school's non teaching staff.

Melissa also plays a role in professional development by facilitating many staff development sessions at local schools, system wide inservices, and conferences.  She was part of the early TeachMeet conferences in the USA, serving on the committee for Tennessee’s first TeachMeet in Nashville.  Since then, she helped bring that conference to Memphis and has continued to help facilitate it, calling it InnovatED.  Melissa has also been the past president of MAIS-TEC, the technology consortium for Memphis Area Independent Schools.
