Get Your Team RACIng: An Integrated Approach to IT Job Design

Log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Too many schools aren't "firing on all cylinders" because it's unclear who’s responsible for even routine work. This is especially challenging in IT, where complexity and interconnection rule. Learn clear frameworks for apportioning job responsibilities that respect the intricacy of IT tasks and allow for clear delineation of responsibility without sacrificing teamwork.

Detailed Description
Whose job is it?! In almost any organization, interdependent workflows make figuring out who is responsible for what a tricky task. This is especially true in IT departments. If the internal complexity of administering our multiple, interconnected, and frequently changing systems weren’t enough, the services they provide support virtually every function in the school, putting IT staff in the middle of almost every organizational process.

To combat this, teams must negotiate clear roles and responsibilities without becoming siloed into solo performers. In this session, you will learn clear frameworks for defining and apportioning job responsibilities that respect the intricacy of IT tasks and allow for clear delineation of responsibility without sacrificing teamwork.

We will explore:
  • A service delivery model for identifying and classifying IT and organizational processes and the procedures, tasks, and duties that enable them;
  • An integrated framework for apportioning duties among multiple positions, both within and across functional departments;
  • A free, customizable tool to automatically generate position descriptions from an integrated responsibility matrix;
  • A detailed procedure for negotiating responsibilities within a stakeholder group.

Learning Objectives:
 At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:
  • Identify workflow stakeholders,
  • Classify position duties into process areas,
  • Define levels of involvement for a given duty/procedure,
  • Construct a responsibility matrix.
