Making the K-12 College Connection
The Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta houses our nation’s largest student-run design, build, and play makerspace called the Invention Studio. The Studio has been in operation since 2008 and currently has a footprint of around 4,500 square feet with equipment worth over $1.5M available for all students across the campus. On a daily basis, about 400 people use the Invention Studio for their projects. Two members of the faculty, Dr. Amit Jariwala and Dr. Julie Linsey, have been supporting the student organization that staffs the Invention Studio. Dr. Jariwala oversees the operational aspects, and Dr. Linsey conducts research on the teaching and learning aspects of the Invention Studio. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Jariwala and Dr. Linsey deliver our Monday keynote presentation, which will also include a presentation by two of the Invention Studio's student leaders, Lauren Murphy and Thomas Spencer.
