John Umekubo is the Director of Technology at St. Matthew’s Parish School, a PS-8 Episcopal day school in Pacific Palisades, CA. John oversees all technology initiatives at the school, including the 1:1 iPad program and two new innovation spaces. He teaches 7th grade technology and a 7th/8th elective course called Creator’s Studio, focusing on design, making and digital fabrication. Prior to St. Matthew’s, John taught middle school math and science and served as Director of Technology for the Lennox School District. He also worked as an educational technology consultant for both public and private schools in Los Angeles, and as adjunct professor at Pepperdine University and California State University, Dominguez Hills in the Masters in Education programs. While consulting, John also functioned as Executive Director for ADTECH, a local non-profit consortium supporting public schools with technology initiatives. He is currently on the leadership team for InTELA, the Independent Technology Educators of Los Angeles, a co-organizer for edcampLA, and serves on the event organizing team for ATLIS, the national Association of Technology Leaders in Independent Schools.
